The Artisan

Teresa RAE Brown:

I am truly grateful for all the challenges and opportunities my journey through life has given me.  With over ten years living abroad in Africa, Asia and Europe, I have been exposed to many cultures, beautiful places and wonderful people.  All of which I believe has influenced my eye for color, proportion, and perspective in arts and design.

10995827_928851510472818_1042117272707563008_nAttending school at Florida State University, I started out pursuing a degree in Interior Design. With life opportunities abroad, I changed to a business degree and graduated from the University of Maryland, European Division.  Returning to the US, I lived in New Orleans for another ten years before transferring to Memphis in 2001.

As the Decorative Finisher, Memphis and the surrounding area have gifted me with 12 years of rewarding work.  Having attended multiple specialized schools throughout the country for decorative painting (and a member of the International Designer Artisan League), I have been working with designers, home owners, and commercial properties to upgrade and improve the interiors/exteriors of their spaces.  It is not often someone can say that they love their industry as much today as the day they started.  I DO!! I have transformed kitchens, foyers, patios, dining rooms, master baths, ceilings, concrete patios, offices, car dealerships, restaurants and more.  Artisan Designs and More has been in business since 2003 creating custom decorative finishes throughout the mid-south.

As the Artist, “RAE”, working with such diverse spaces and surfaces has allowed me to transfer my knowledge of materials, textures and other mediums from walls, cabinetry, ceilings, floors to canvases! My specialty is creating custom artwork for individuals based on the space! Every home, room and place of business has a different mood and the artwork placed there should reflect that. Thus, my work ranges from abstract, impressions, landscapes and more.  Depending on the project/piece/size and overall look to be achieved, the products I use vary greatly and can include a variety of textures, plasters, stone products, metallics, pigments and stains.  I do not limit myself.  I love textures and rich color and my favorite tool is the pallet knife!
